White marble look epoxy countertops in Fountain Valley, CA

An update for older kitchens

Many homes here still have original or 1990s laminate and tile counters. Replacing them with stone means demolition, templating, weeks of waiting and a large bill. Epoxy countertops are poured directly over the existing surface after preparation. In a few days, you have a seamless, glossy counter that can look like marble, granite or something entirely custom.

Looks you can choose

White with gray veining is the most popular, followed by warm cream with gold, deep black with white and stone looks in tan and brown. Metallic pigments create flowing patterns for bars and islands. We review samples with you and plan where the veining will run.

Artisan adding veining to an epoxy countertop in Fountain Valley, CA

How it is done

We protect cabinets, floors and appliances, then sand and clean the existing counter. Tile grout lines are filled and leveled. A primer and base coat go down, then the decorative pour, where color and veining are worked by hand. A clear topcoat finishes the surface. Edges are formed as part of the pour.

Durability

Epoxy counters resist water, stains and everyday wear. They are not as heat resistant as stone, so use trivets for hot pans. Use cutting boards to avoid knife marks. Minor scratches can be buffed out, and the surface can be recoated later.

Bathrooms, bars and laundry rooms

Vanities, wet bars and laundry folding counters are great smaller projects. Many homeowners add them while we are already doing the kitchen.

Timeline

Most kitchens take two to four days, with light use after about a day and full cure in a week.

Older laminate and tile

Laminate counters from past decades often have worn seams, chipped edges and a rolled backsplash. Tile counters have stained grout and uneven surfaces. Both can be prepared and poured over. We sand laminate to give the epoxy grip, repair damaged edges and seal seams. Tile is cleaned, grout lines are filled and the surface is leveled. The new counter hides all of it under a single smooth pour.

Sinks, cooktops and fixtures

Undermount and drop-in sinks can usually stay in place. We tape and protect them, pour around them and finish the edge neatly. Cooktops and faucets are removed and reinstalled when needed. We will walk through every fixture with you during the estimate so nothing is overlooked.

Comparing cost with stone

Natural stone and quartz slabs require demolition, templates, fabrication and installation, often costing several times more and taking weeks. Epoxy is poured on site in a few days with no demolition. It is an affordable way to modernize a kitchen, especially in a home you plan to rent or sell.

Backsplashes and islands

Islands can get a bolder look, such as a darker color or metallic swirl, while perimeter counters stay lighter. Backsplashes can be poured to match for a seamless look from counter to wall. We plan the design so each surface works together.

Caring for your new counters

Clean with mild dish soap and warm water, then dry with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemicals like oven cleaner or bleach concentrate. Use cutting boards, trivets and coasters as you would with any fine surface. If the topcoat dulls after years of use, we can lightly sand and recoat it in a day, bringing back the shine without redoing the whole counter. Small chips on edges can be filled and polished so they disappear.

Outdoor kitchens

Countertops on a backyard grill island need UV-stable materials. We use a protective topcoat suited to outdoor exposure and recommend placing them under a cover where possible, so the finish keeps its color through many seasons of barbecues.
